Board of Directors
The Western Virginia Workforce Development Board is a partnership of public and private sector organizations dedicated to achieving regional workforce and economic development goals.
Board of Directors members are appointed by the Chief Local Elected Officials (CLEO) Consortium from nominations received from board members, partner organizations or any member of the public residing in Virginia Local Workforce Investment Area III (the counties of Alleghany, Botetourt, Craig, Franklin and Roanoke, and the cities of Covington, Roanoke and Salem.)
The board is made up of business sector and workforce partner organizations as described in the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) Directors must be residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Each director serves for a three-year term and may be appointed for additional three-year terms. Directors receive training related to board service and the WIA. Board of director bylaws require membership include at least 51 percent private sector members, who may represent the locality in which their organization is based or where the individual resides.

Youth Council
Youth Council, appointed by the board of directors, brings together businesses and other organizations concerned about the workforce of tomorrow. The council makes recommendations to the Board of Directors concerning youth programs, evaluates contracts and plans for programs for youth throughout the area. Its members serve as liaisons with the community and as an important resource in identifing crucial service needs.
Youth Council members must be residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia with an interest or involvement in youth issues.
